Student Government Association Board of Governors 8/27/2008 Hatfield’s A&B, 7:30p.m.

I.Call to Order -Vice President Napier called the meeting to order.

IV.Executive Reports

President Parsons -Welcomed all students to the meeting. -Recognized Governor Wyatt for his hard work on the debit card system. -Met with Governor Pearson and Chief-of-Staff Queen about ways to be involved in the state legislature. -Proud to announce the expansion of our SpeakUP campaign. -Next week, SGA will send a postcard to every dorm mailbox encouraging them to speak up.

Vice President Napier -Working on the International Student Mentoring Program. About 50 international students have signed up. -Also working on the report on the Mountainlair.

Attorney General Gutta -Attended a meeting in regards to the Student Conduct Board. -If you did not attend the retreat and did not send him an e-mail, please see him after the meeting.

Chief of Staff McIntosh -Absent.

Chief of Staff Queen -Met with Governor Pearson and President Parsons about issues in the state legislature.

Director of Communications Peters -There are many things going on in SGA. -Introduced our webmaster, Pete Deremer. -SGA is planning a back-to-school social event. -October 12-19 will be Healthy Living Week. -October 19 will be the 5k Heart Walk. -The newsletter will be coming out within the next few weeks. -Has a class 7:30-8:45 Wednesday nights, so she probably won’t be at most of the meetings.

Executive Secretary Poling -Sent out an e-mail about the transportation meeting. -Will be sitting on the social justice committee.

Elections Chair Dobson -If anyone is interested in serving on the elections committee, please see him.

Elections Chair Golomb -Will be meeting with Governor Mathias about getting ads out in the DA about homecoming elections.

Maniac Director Bailey -The Maniacs are off to a good start. -A record number of student tickets were requested for the Villanova game. -Friday is FanFest. -The Blood Drive today went well.

Outreach Director Judy -Absent.

Outreach Director Yachini -WeCAN will start September 2nd. -Will be starting on Engage ‘08.

Off-Campus Housing Director Fink -Working on the off-campus housing weekend. -Working with Brain Walker.

Treasurer Greenberg -The applications for the grants are updated and available. -Needs to get together a Bureau of Finance Committee.

V.Open Student Forum I -Matt Dellgatti-chairman of the United States Public Service Academy. The curriculum is heavily involved in service learning, study abroad, and foreign language. If you are interested, the bill in the Senate is currently sponsored by Hillary Clinton. Currently, there is no one involved in West Virginia, but please see him about getting a form and more information. -President Parsons encouraged student to get involved in the United States Public Service Committee. -Sawan Prabhu-President of the Student Health Advisory Board. They are currently working on the problems at Student Health. They will be sponsoring a 5k run/walk and information fair on September 20th.

VII.New Business A. Announcement of the Panel to Select Student Representatives to the Presidential Search Committee: President Parsons -President McGrath is an interim President. He will be here for no more than one year. -A committee of seven students has been put together. These students will choose the student representatives to serve on the search committee. -Starting next Wednesday, applications will be available. -This is the first time that SGA has been so diligent at reaching out to everyone and hearing their voices. -President Parsons and Vice President Napier intentionally removed themselves from this process.

VIII.Governors’ Reports

Governor Fortunato -Met with Bob Roberts this morning about the WVU PRT text-alert. -His options are to use the MIX systems to send out text messages, utilize a company in Virginia about text messaging, or to use Facebook. -Has a meeting with Mike Ellington later this week about the Greek students Basketball Game.

Governor France -Trying to set up a meeting with people who may be interested in improving the Pre-Med program at WVU. -The TVs have been mounted in the lounge under the Grand Staircase.

Governor Mathias -Welcomed University 101 students. -If you are interested in going Greek, please see her or Governor McCulloch. -Meet the Greeks will be Wednesday, September 3rd. -Formal Sorority Recruitment will begin Sunday, September 14th.

Governor McCulloch -Apologized for being late. -Fraternity house tours will be next week after Meet the Greeks from 7-9pm. -They will be sending e-mails and text messages to Freshmen males about Fraternity recruitment.

Governor Miller -Working on Healthy Living Week and the Wellness Advisory Board.

Governor Mitchell -No report.

Governor Pearson -If anyone feels that there is an issue facing students that needs to be addressed on a state level, please let him know. -There is now a sidewalk on Protzman Road.

Governor Perry -Thanked Governors Mathias and McCulloch for speaking at the University 101 class Monday. -Thanked Pete Deremer for working on the SGA website. -Student Connections will be meeting for lunch next Wednesday at 12:30 and Thursday at 1:00.

Governor Ramsey -Next Wednesday at 4pm, there will be seminars about resumes and job interviews.

Governor Richmond -No report.

Governor Rogers -Honored to Chair the Student Selection Committee for the Presidential Search Process. -Interned for the Morgantown City Code Enforcement this summer. -There have been a record number of demolitions in Morgantown over the summer. -Over 75 citations have been given out for property maintenance complaints. -The Morgantown Housing Advisory Board formed this summer.

Governor Seitz -No report.

Governor Thomaselli -No report.

Governor Wyatt -There were not many details in the article in the DA today because of confidentiality agreements. -The debit card system will be tested in Summer 2009 and ready for use by Fall 2009.

Governor Zuccari -No report.

XI.Open Student Forum II -Director Peters commended President Parsons and Vice President Napier for allowing student to be so involved in the Presidential Search Process.

XII.Announcements -Governor France announced that they will be hanging alcohol awareness banners on doorknobs in Sunnyside. -Congratulated Governor Rogers. -Governor Mathias thanked the people who participated in the Transportation Video. -Meet the Greeks in Wednesday September 3rd. -Governor Ramsey’s beach volleyball team has been postponed. -Vice President Napier commended SGA on perfect attendance and completion of platforms.
