SGA Senator Helps To Secure Lower Concession Prices at Football Game
Morgantown, WV -The cost of concessions at West Virginia University football games can deter students hoping for a snack or drink on game day.
However, lower concession prices are now available for students at Milan Puskar Stadium thanks to advocacy and work by Abundance Hunt, a WVU Student Government Association senator for athletics.
“My inspiration for the discounted student concession stand prices came after hearing numerous students complain that they would rather leave the game early than stay and pay for a snack,” Hunt said. “Dehydration was also another serious concern. It was my goal to improve the game day experience for the students of WVU and I hope this will do just that.”
Hunt began working with the WVU Athletics Department to provide students with discounted concessions during the spring 2017 semester.
“They were very receptive and open to all ideas my fellow students and I shared with them,” Hunt said. “We had numerous meetings and dialog and I feel the outcome was a great solution.”
Students with ID will now be able to get concessions such as popcorn, pepperoni rolls, water and soda at a discounted rate at certain vendors at Milan Puskar Stadium. Discounted concession will be at the Sideline Concession Stand in Section 121 and the Red Zone Grill Stand in Section 110 of the Milan Puskar Stadium.
Hunt hopes to expand the initiative to the WVU Coliseum for basketball season and all Olympic sports venues.
“It is important that all students feel welcome and safe at WVU athletic events,” Hunt said. “I believe lowering the prices of these items will help maintain a fun and safe environment and be better on the average college student's wallet.”
The Mountaineers will face East Carolina University in their first home game at noon on September 9.
