The West Virginia University Student Government Association adheres to the regulations outlined in the Elections Code, which governs all aspects of the association's elections. Amendments to election procedures within the Election Code are only effective after an election.
The code applies to campaigning and election procedures for various offices, including President, Vice President, and Student Assembly positions. Candidates must meet qualifications outlined in the Election Code and submit necessary documentation, including a registration form, verification of qualifications, and a signed statement abiding by the Code of Fair Campaign Practices. Candidates provide instructions for their name and pronouns on the ballot, and write-in candidates must meet specific requirements. Expenditure limits are set for candidates seeking executive and senatorial positions, with detailed guidelines on fundraising, financial reporting, and prohibited expenditures. Withdrawal from candidacy is permitted until the last hour of voting, with proper notification to the Elections Chair.
