December 2022 Assembly Report

Senator Ashley Eby

This month I researched final grading policies and compiled information on research opportunities.

In January I plan to write legislation that focuses on grade reporting accountability and encourages professors to grade assignments in a timely manner.

Senator Sohan Daniel

In December I worked on implementing Mental Health Statements in syllabi in addition to improving the campus safety statement. In addition to this, I started working on a Sobering Center.

In January I hope to improve the Syllabus Statement Legislation I have up & to finish the plans for the Sobering Center.

I am currently working on Syllabus Statements & Sobering Center legislation.

College Senator Morgan Glass

This December I worked on the legislation I contributed to concerning adding extra mental health days in the fall was officially passed, and we were able to see the university actually implement 2 new days! College Senator Hitt and I were able to finally meet with the Davis College Dean to discuss some concerns like recruitment, but also projects like a Davis Student Council.

For the month of January, C. Senator Hitt and I plan to begin work on implementing the Davis College Student Council by reaching out to Davis faculty to find interested students from each major.

I am not currently working on any legislation, but am planning on coordinating legislation with this project.

College Senator Zachariah Backus

I am very early on legislation regarding increasing the number of gender-neutral bathrooms across campus, as well as meeting with my deans with senator Sorrells.

In January I plan to Work on Election Outreach as well as the gender neutral bathroom legislation.

The legislation I am working on deals with increasing the number of gender-neutral bathrooms across campus.

College Senator Theodore Stackpole

This month I Worked on finalizing Safety and Wellness Syllabus Statements resolution, corresponding with Faculty Senate and the Carruth Center.

In January I hope to accomplish the Passage of Safety and Wellnes Syllabus Statements Resolution, continue planning as necessary for Safety Walk Events.

I am currently working on Resolution to Improve Safety and Wellness Related Syllabus Statements (AR-2020-13)

Senator Tucker Nadeau

With the semester winding down I didn't work on a lot besides the meeting a few weeks ago.

I would like to get more involved with SGA sustainability efforts and begin research on departmental reviews.

I am not currently working on any legislation.

Senator Sarah Ihlenfeld

I have been working on our West Virginia state legislative involvement with President Riggs and Legislative Affairs Officer Riffey. We have scheduled a meeting for January. I also attended a meeting to discuss the proposed changes to the elections code.

In January, I will be working on SGA's West Virginia state legislative involvement. We will be determining our legislative priorities and making plans for voicing out concerns in Charleston.

I am working on legislation to accompany our legislative involvement, and I told Senator Jernigan that I would like to help her with her gender neutral bathroom legislation.

College Senator Tyler Seidel

In December I Emailed dean with summarization of SGA activities from the end of the semester

In January I hope to Work with Statler to form a new research based course to introduce students to research as a first year student

I am currently working on Legislation to introduce a new research based course

College Senator Meg Sorrells

This month, I met with the students of the Country Roads program to let them know about SGA, hear about their WVU experience, and ensure that they were aware of SGA as a resource to share their views as students. I also met with the directors of the program, Dr. Dan Long and Dr. Lesley Cotrell to discuss accessibility and inclusion on campus and how WVU students can be better peer advocates for other students with disabilities. We also discussed education and awareness campaigns for the Spring as well as SGA support of faculty senate legislation which would require WVU professors to expand access to accessible materials in the classroom. This month, College Senator Backus and I also met with our dean, discussing filling CEHS College Senator positions for next year, engagement with state educational policy, and student involvement.

During the moth of January, I would like to begin a resolution in support of Dr. Long’s faculty senate legislation supporting expanded accessibility in WVU classrooms, finalize the resolution on Mental Health and Safety statements on syllabi with College Senator Stackpole and Senator Daniel, work with Senator Daniel on providing students with caps and gowns, and work with disability rights activist, Steve Slack to identify legislation in WV which SGA can support this Spring.

I am working on legislation regarding Mental Health and Safety Syllabus Statements.
