Please summarize what you accomplished or worked on in the month of November

In the month of November, College Senator Stackpole, Sorrells & myself have been working with UPD, The Faculty Senate and the Carruth Center to update the safety syllabus Statement and create a Mental Health Syllabus Statement. In addition to this I have been working with the Governing Documents Review Committee to update the Elections Code.

For the month of December, I hope to work with the Carruth Center more to make their resources more accessible in addition to the resolution about syllabus statements. Alongside this I hope to finalize the plan for the second semester for the safety committee.

I am currently working on a Resolution to Improve Safety & Wellness related syllabus Statements & Elections Code amendments.

College Senator Tara Sith

In the month of November I helped SEP club bring in guest speakers for the club.

In the month of December I hope to talk to Dean about SEP professionals working at WVU, hopefully allow SEP students to gain shadow hours

Senator Sarah Ihlenfeld

I have been working with the Inclusion Committee to plan for our next Intersectionality Coalition Meeting. I have also been working with Chase to plan for the West Virginia state legislative session and schedule a meeting with legislators.

I am hoping to send out a poll to get meeting times for a meeting with legislators some time over the winter break, and before the meeting, we will need to spend time thinking about what legislative initiatives we want to advocate for.

I will probably work on some legislation to go along with our work with the state legislature.

College Senator Meg Sorrells

This month, I worked with Senator Daniel and College Senator Stackpole on legislation to add a mental health statement to syllabi. We met with faculty senate member, Dr.Natalie Singh-Corcoran, as well as T. Anne Hawkins from the Carruth Center to discuss our legislation. This month, I also met with disability advocate, Steve Slack, to discuss accessibility and inclusion on campus. Following our meeting, Steve put me into contact with Dr. Daniel Long, director of WVU Accessibility Services, and Dr. Lesley Cottrell.

This coming month, I will continue to work on the mental health statement legislation. I will be meeting with students from the Country Roads program to hear about their WVU experience and ensure that they have contacts within SGA. I will also be meeting with the directors of the Country Roads program, Dr. Long and Dr. Cottrell. They hope to have the support of SGA to ensure students in the Country Roads program are included and empowered by their peers. I would like to find a few peers to form the Inclusion Committee to begin planning inclusion efforts with the Country Roads program for the Spring semester.

I am currently workin on the addition of mental health statements to course syllabi.

In November I discussed mental health with students and gathered input on the best way to address mental health in Spring 2021; gathered further input on virtual tutoring; researched WVU’s grading policies in preparation for finals.

In December I hope to finalize plans with the office of student success to enhance the online tutoring experience; draft legislation encouraging professors to offer an online office hour scheduling platform.

I am currently working on a bill encouraging professors to offer an online office hour scheduling platform.

College Senator Lily McKnight

This month I have been working towards gathering the necessary elements for a high school student government virtual resource.

My goal for December is to continue working on this and get my Dean's input.

Senator Arpan Kumar

the Office of the Provost to resolve issues and concerns regarding the 2021 Spring Academic Calendar. To do this, I assembled a team of interns/execs/ senators to form an informal committee that worked on a survey and legislation to back the request for additional days off. This survey is also foundational to further efforts to address mental health concerns on campus.

My goal for December is to formulate a course of action that can help to alleviate the pressures on mental health that we have seen this semester. I want to make sure to use student opinions and concerns to address problems presented by COVID and online learning. I am looking to pass legislation specifically targeted high issue areas such as work-load that exceeds the scope of a classes’s given credit hours and to rework the Exam policy to no longer allow for the final week of class loop-hole (this is a policy that states there cannot be exams in the final week of class, but in fine print it says as long as it’s not weighted as a final)

Currently I have written a resolution with the help of Senator Harmon to back our efforts with the university to add days off next semester.

College Senator Jacqueline Frances Bonar

In November Lily and I finally got our Dean to set up a meeting. This meeting will happen on Dec. 2 @ 2 p.m. and I will bring up a DEI scholarship, freshmansenior mentor program, online student activities for the Spring (incase COVID is still around) to increase mental health and interaction among Reed students, among a few other items.

In December I plan on Meeting with Dean to discuss my new appointment and start plans for a DEI scholarship. Have a meeting with Whitney Godwin (recruitment for Reed) about brining back the freshman-senior mentoring program for Spring 2021 or even Fall 2021.

I am currently not working on any legislation but would love to co-work on something or sponsor if anyone needs it.

College Senator Tyler Seidel

This month I spoke with my dean regarding the creation of a new research based course to introduce freshman to research. Spoke with my dean about optimizing the faculty pages within the statler college to show up to date information.

In December I hope to contact department chairs who have yet to respond to my emails. Find a professor willing to teach a new research based course. Speak with FEP head regrading introducing freshman to more information regarding research.

I am currently working on legislation to create a new research course.
