Adrienne Kemp-Rye
Position: Chief of Staff of External Affairs
A summary of work completed in October: In October, much of my work revolved around election preparation. I worked with Local Governance Liaison Riffey to plan our voter registration tabling events, package our giveaway bags, and promotion on social media. In addition to the tabling event, a video was released encouraging students to vote. This month we also had our first Intersectionality Coalition event, which I worked with Inclusion Coordinator Hossain and Senator Donnelly to both plan and execute. We saw a great response from our participants and are looking to have our next event in the next month or two. Finally, I worked on both our Safety and Community Engagement 10 for 10 surveys. The safety survey was summarized this month and the community engagement summary is in the works.
A summary of plans for November: In November, we hope to continue our promotion of community engagement and civility. For our November 11 meeting, I reached out and confirmed with Dr. Tiffany Mitchell Patterson to speak to our group about the importance of civil discourse. We will be inviting other students and organizations to listen to her speak. Sustainability Week will be November 9-13, so I will be working more with Sustainability Coordinator Kaczmarek on the promotion and events pertaining to those initiatives. Finally, I will be working on executing Swipe Out Hunger and brainstorming outreach ideas with Student Experience Coordinator Bowers to better inform the student body about how to donate. Of course, I will be working in any other areas that need my attention that come up throughout November.

Logan Riffey
Position: Local Governance Liaison
A summary of work completed in October: October came and went fairly quickly, perhaps a symptom of how busy I've been during it. To start off Community Engagement Month, my committee planned a voter registration drive booth outside the Mountainlair. We were excited to find out that most people who stopped by were already registered! Also at the beginning of the month, we got social media graphics out on voter registration as the deadline to register to vote to participate in the election was October 13. Halfway through October, the 10 for 10 Community Engagement survey was released. In the period it was open, we received about 270 responses. Further social media campaigns were done utilizing a video filmed on-campus. So far, on Instagram alone, we have almost 2,600 views. Currently being worked on is Electoral Map Madness and our Civility Town Hall. Electoral Map Madness is an event similar to filing out March Madness brackets, where students will fill out an electoral map for prizes. Submissions are being accepted through November 3 at noon. We have a virtual event to reveal the winners on November 5 at 7pm. Joining us will be Dr. Erik Herron, a guest speaker to give an introduction to the different voting systems around the world. The following week, our Civility Town Hall will take place during our regularly scheduled SGA meeting on November 11 at 7:30pm. Joining us as guest speakers will be Dr. Tiffany Mitchell Patterson and (tentatively) Dr. Christina Fattore. During the town hall, the importance of remaining civil in political discussion will be emphasized.
A summary of plans for November: In November, I will work with my committee in any capacity to see that Sustainability Month is a success. Sustainability Coordinator Kaczmarek will be fairly busy with her work for the month, so I would like to take on the initiative of another “Make Morgantown Beautiful” garage clean-up, carrying on the legacy of past years. The suggested date is Sunday, November 15, which happens to be National Recycling Day.

The Committee discussed their goals for the semester and we started discussing future changes to the Elections Code. We did not vote but had a good conversation about ideas and possible changes.
A summary of plans for November: Once we get an Attorney General, my plans are to create the Elections Committee and get a timeline for the election in Spring 2021. After that, I will do a information session, probably via Zoom, about SGA, the Assembly position, and the election.
