The Legislative Affairs Officer holds a critical role in facilitating communication and advocacy efforts between the Student Government Association (SGA) and local, state, and federal offices.
Their responsibilities encompass coordinating outreach, communication, and lobbying endeavors with these entities, ensuring effective representation of student interests. This involves researching legislation relevant to higher education and West Virginia University, as well as overseeing planning and logistics for advocacy events like WVU Day at the Legislature and Big XII on The Hill. Additionally, they maintain relationships with key government offices and regularly engage with relevant stakeholders, including the State and Local Relations Office and community advocacy groups. The Liaison provides regular reports on state and federal legislation impacting WVU students and serves as a vital member of the SGA's outreach department. Committed to their role, they attend weekly SGA meetings and undertake any other duties as directed by the President and Vice President, contributing to the SGA's effective engagement with legislative matters.
